The ontological turn of the hermeneutics of Being and Time

Abstract
In Being and Time (2018), a significant shift occurs in the history of hermeneutics: it ceases to be understood exclusively as a methodological theory of textual interpretation and instead acquires an ontological status linked to the very structure of existence. Various authors have analyzed this turn, among them Paul Ricoeur, early on, and Jean Grondin next, who develops his work in continuity with Ricoeur’s interpretation.. Both Ricoeur and Grondin agree that the Heideggerian hermeneutic turn marks a point of no return with respect to the epistemic dimension of hermeneutics. The present paper seeks to explicate the conception of hermeneutics that appears in Being and Time in order to clarify the nature of the ontological shift and too assess whether this turn truly entails a point of no return with regard to the epistemological approach traditionally associated with hermeneutics.
